Falcons Flight is an amazing steel roller coaster that uses powerful launches to send riders soaring! You can find it at Six Flags Qiddiya City, a huge entertainment park near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This incredible ride holds the titles for the world's tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster. It's even bigger and faster than famous coasters like Top Thrill 2, Formula Rossa, and Steel Dragon 2000!

History of Falcons Flight

How the Idea Began

The idea for Falcons Flight started with a big plan for a new city called Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia. On April 7, 2017, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced this huge project. It was designed to be a fun place for entertainment, sports, and culture. The goal was to help Saudi Arabia's economy grow in new ways.

Part of this plan included building a Six Flags theme park. In August 2019, more details about Six Flags Qiddiya were shared. That's when Falcons Flight was first announced! It was going to be a record-breaking roller coaster, the tallest, fastest, and longest in the world. Early videos showed the coaster zooming along cliffs and even near a F1 race track. People were very excited, though some wondered if such an amazing ride could really be built.

Who Built This Amazing Ride?

By January 2020, the teams who would build all the rides for the park were chosen. Experts also studied the ground and cliffs where the coaster would go. In January 2021, a company called Intamin from Liechtenstein announced they were designing Falcons Flight. They are famous for building thrilling roller coasters!

Later, in January 2023, a Swiss company named Indrivetec AG confirmed they were creating the powerful launch system. This system was designed to help the coaster reach a world-record speed. At a big amusement park event in Florida in 2023, Intamin showed off more details about Falcons Flight. They even displayed one of the front cars! They also shared a new video showing the final design of the ride. Everyone was excited to see this "roller coaster evolution of the century."

Building the Coaster

Building Falcons Flight happened at the same time as the rest of the Six Flags park. In December 2021, two big construction companies, Bouygues Bâtiment International and Saudi Almabani General Contractors, were hired for the project. Parts of the coaster were made in Slovakia.

The first pieces of the track and supports were put in place in April 2023. This was for the station where riders get on and off. Over the next year and a half, more and more of the track was added. In April 2024, the highest freestanding part of the coaster, a "camelback hill," was installed. By December 2024, the very last piece of track was carefully placed on top of the huge drop, right at the edge of the cliff!

Falcons Flight Characteristics

Amazing Facts and Figures

Falcons Flight is incredibly long, stretching over 13,943 feet (about 4,250 meters)! It reaches a super-fast top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 km/h). The coaster uses the natural cliffs of the area to reach a peak height of 639 feet (195 meters). Riders experience a massive drop of 525 feet (160 meters)! The tallest hill that stands on its own is 535 feet (163 meters) high, with a thrilling 519-foot (158-meter) drop.

The ride has six trains, and each train can carry fourteen riders. There are four cars per train, with riders sitting two across in rows. The front car has one row, and the others have two. To get more people on the ride quickly, Falcons Flight has two separate loading areas in its station.

This coaster uses three powerful linear synchronous motor (LSM) launches. These special motors push the train to faster and faster speeds. The second launch, which goes up the cliff, speeds riders up to over 100 miles per hour (160 km/h). The final launch, on the way down, helps the train hit its maximum speed of 155.3 miles per hour (250 km/h)! These launches use more than 700 LSM modules, which is a huge amount of power!

How It's Built to Be Awesome

Intamin calls Falcons Flight an "Exa Coaster" because it's built to handle extreme speeds and the tough desert weather. The trains have special features for rider comfort and safety. Each car has lap bars and big curved windshields. These windshields protect riders from sand that might fly around at high speeds.

The trains are made with great precision, without any welding. They have special rims that help keep them cool. Even the wheels are custom-made for this ride! They are 16 inches (41 cm) wide, making them some of the biggest wheels ever used on a roller coaster. Also, the trains have 35 lights that can be programmed. This makes the coaster look amazing as it zooms through the night!
